An event as large as Achievement Day takes a great deal of time, work and organization. It does not run smoothly without the cooperation of each and every individual teacher. While the policies and procedures may seem stringent at times, be assured that they are necessary for our event to continue to run as smoothly as possible.
Eligibility Requirements
Students, in grades K-12, who enter AD must be studying with a teacher who meets the following eligibility requirements:
- Teacher must be a member in good standing of CMTA, SCMTA and MTNA as of October 15 of the current fiscal year; a late joining member pays an additional $25 fee after joining.
- Non-member teachers may enter students for an additional fee of $100.
- Teacher must be present to work on AD. The date is announced in September, for teachers to reserve that date on their calendars. In the event of a valid emergency (determined by the AD Co-Chairs), the teacher must work in activities preceding and/or following AD such as scheduling, set-up, Honors Recital, etc.
- Teacher must submit the application online by the deadline date.
Eligibility for Voice Students
Voice is only available at Achievement Day for grades 4-12. All other eligibility requirements also apply.
Changes in Scheduling
There will be absolutely NO exceptions or alternatives to the established AD date. The Co-Chairs are responsible for setting up the date and for scheduling times for students. After scheduling, there can be NO changes. Students must participate on the appointed day and time or decline to participate. Registration is final once submitted by the teacher.
Special Requests
Special requests are accepted. The requests section is used for listing siblings or multiple instrumentalists and advising of any special needs. You should inform your students in September as to the Achievement Day date, and tell them to reserve the entire day. Any bona fide scheduling request MUST be accompanied by a signed letter from the parent of the student (not the teacher) explaining the necessity of the request. Generic statements such as previous family obligation, or anything of a vague nature will not be considered a bona fide request; rather, specific reasons for the request should be cited. These will be taken under consideration by the Achievement Day Co-Chairs or Achievement Day Committee. There is no obligation or guarantee the request will be honored.
Changes in Repertoire
There will be absolutely NO changes in repertoire after the application has been submitted. Students must perform the repertoire listed or they will not receive a grade in performance. Please be certain to check requirements under Piano or Voice Repertoire to know what repertoire is and is not acceptable in AD auditions. Students entering in Voice must use piano accompaniment in their audition.
Music
Photocopied music is prohibited. Any student with photocopied music will not receive a grade in performance. Students must have their music, with measures numbered, when checking in at the registration desk. There will be no sharing of music by students, including siblings. Either the student or teacher must secure another copy of the music prior to Achievement Day. Any student checking in at the registration desk without music or with photocopied music will not receive a grade in performance. Registration desk attendees will notify AD chairs that students have registered with a NS (no score) status.
Controversies
Any controversies possibly arising will be resolved by the AD Co-Chairs. In the event the Co-Chairs are not in agreement, any conflict will ultimately be resolved by the CMTA President.
