Founded over 60 years ago in the early 1960’s, the Charleston Music Teachers Association has approximately 50 members representing all areas of the Tri-county region. Our monthly meetings are held on the second Friday of the month, September – May, at Fox Music House, 4248 Dorchester Road, North Charleston 29405. Social time with refreshments begins at 9:30 am, and the business meeting and program, at 10:00.
In addition to opportunities for professional growth, CMTA offers numerous activities for students, including masterclasses, a student-teacher duet recital, scholarship auditions, and Achievement Day, an event that draws approximately 400 students each year.
CMTA members are also members of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. Many have students participate in the SCMTA District and State Pre-College Auditions and in the MTNA Performance Competitions. MTNA also offers a certification program for members.
